SIX New Paintings & Upcoming Gallery Exhibitions

This week I decided it was time to MAKE SOME ART, so I set aside 8-10 hours every night for 3 nights and managed to do six (small) paintings. It was fun and spontaneous and I need to do it more often.

I started by doing a wash of color over the board first, turning it and angling it to get the water and colors to run together and do the things that only watercolor will do. Then I plunked down and created images on top. The imagery is completely unplanned and on-the-fly - what you see is what popped into my head while staring at the swirls.

Believe it or not, the next HorrorFind Weekend is only 2 months away, and that means it's time for all you dark artists out there to start thinking about the HorrorFind Weekend Horror Art Show! While the art shows in 2006 & 2007 were very successful, we found that the silent auction system we were using caused more problems than it solved, so we've dropped it in favor of a straight-up cash-and-carry system. This will make things simpler for the artists involved, and for the show attendees, and should facilitate a lot more sales! HALLOWEEN: The Happy Haunting of America

I just had a chance (FINALLY) to watch the DVD "Halloween: The Happy Haunting of America" and loved it so much I left it running in a loop while I worked for the next 3 hours; I'm still working my way through the megaton of awesome extras. What a great, nostalgic, industry-encompassing creature Chuck Williams & Co. have created, here. I loved seeing so many people who love Halloween as much as I do, and how they've each manifested that love in their lives - it did my black heart good.

What sets this DVD apart from seemingly similar shows on TLC or the Travel Channel is the clear, obvious love and respect everybody on both sides of the camera has for Halloween, haunted houses, and all things spooky. I recognized aspects of myself in many of the interviewees when they talked about their fond memories of Halloween and how important it was (and still is) to them. This DVD really transcends documentary; this is a love letter to my favorite holiday.

I spend no small amount of time searching out Halloween-themed documentaries, shows and movies every year - this is one of the best ones I've ever seen, and I wanted to say "thank you" to its creators and participants for this particular Halloween treat!

Chad Savage helps Miss Scary Midwest 2007

Two of the contestants in Saturday night's Miss Scary Midwest Pageant at the Midwest Haunters Convention had their make up done by Chad (Sinister Visions) Savage and Geoff (Spooky Buttons) Graves, somewhat at the last minute. Leah and Stephanie's make up artist was unable to do their make up, so Geoff and Chad stepped in at the 11th hour and tag-teamed back and forth, creating on-the-spot character designs and having a really great time doing it.

Lo and behold, Leah took the crown, and Stephanie took First Runner Up!

While their acting and on-stage performances are likely what won, Chad and Geoff were pleased as punch to have provided the make up for both ladies, and they have our hardy congratulations.

In the photo below, Geoff is the pirate, Chad is the... other thing.
